Embracing and celebrating diversity is a critical strategic initiative for our campus. With this in mind, as Co-Chairs of the UTC Diversity Advisory Council, Dr. Rutledge and I invite you to participate in “Moving Our Campus (MOC) Forward: An Inclusive Excellence Conference,” to be held in the University Center on Tuesday, October 17th.

Through the work of UTC’s Diversity Advisory Council, we have envisioned the development and deployment of an initiative that would leverage the campus’ existing expertise along the diversity continuum and assist us in meeting the needs and interests of our students. MOC Forward will provide an opportunity for members of the UTC community to come together and engage around the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The theme of this year’s conference is “Exploring Inclusion as a Path to Excellence.” Intended to motivate positive progress towards the campus’ strategic diversity goals and climate of inclusion, the conference will offer sessions that focus on self-exploration, identity development, campus diversity, and inclusion in the wider community.

MOC Forward will foster awareness and appreciation of diversity issues through exploration of exemplary practice, contemporary theory, groundbreaking research, thought leadership, and strategy development. Led by scholars and practitioners at the campus, regional and national levels, participants will discuss how diversity in the educational environment—including an outstanding and diverse student body, faculty, and staff—leads to an environment conducive to learning and adds value to the educational experience and work environment.

Additionally, MOC Forward will explore how interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives augments the curricular experience and affords every student the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a global society.

MOC Forward is open to faculty, staff, students and key community partners. We hope you will make every effort to attend this important learning and networking initiative that can help us better serve our students.
