 Dr. Chad Williams is the Spector Professor of History and African American Studies at Brandeis University. He has earned fellowships from the Radcliffe institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, the American Council of Learned Societies, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the Ford Foundation, and the Woodrow Wilson Foundation.


His lecture is drawn from his award-winning book of the same title, which will be on sale before his lecture, and Dr. Williams will be present to sign books at 4:30, just before the lecture begins at 5:00 p.m.

Dr. Williams’ lecture is sponsored by the Connor Professor in American Literature, the UTC Africana Studies Program, the UTC Department of History, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
