Join Verbie Prevost, UTC English Professor Emerita, who will present a special Take Five session on William Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! Do you think your family is messed up? Meet Thomas Sutpen, who arrives in sleepy Jefferson, Mississippi, in 1830 with nothing but a gold doubloon, a handful of French-speaking slaves, and grand dynastic ambitions. In his rise from deep obscurity to great prominence, he lays the groundwork for his own tragic fall, which haunts his progeny for generations to come. Whether you decide to read any or all of Faulkner’s most challenging novel, come hear Dr. Prevost and her fellow panelists explore the tangled Sutpen family web. (Copies of the novel can be purchased from any online retailer or at the UTC Bookstore.)
