On Monday, November 11, at 5:30 PM in the Raccoon Mountain Room of the University Center, Robert H. Brinkmeyer, Neuffer Professor of Southern Studies at the University of South Carolina, will deliver a public lecture titled “Hidden Wounds: Faulkner, Family, and the South.” Drawing on the works of various writers, including William Faulkner, Wendell Berry, and Katharine Du Pre Lumpkin, the lecture explores the hidden wounds that often scar the interior lives of Southern families. The scars of  racism in particular, Brinkmeyer contends, not only make the past all too real but also point the way toward healing and atonement.
